London is said to be one of the greenest of cities. I wonder how many visitors realize the existence of this oasis a few minutes walk from the St Pancras International Eurostar Terminal, although I guess most of them have come for other reasons than escaping into nature. I had not been to this spot for a while and was struck by how much it had grown up since my last visit. Of course the vegetation is at its peak at this time of the year – lush cow parsley, full leaf on the trees, reeds and irises.
I sat for a while gathering my thoughts and watched blue tits flitting about furiously in the trees feeding their recently fledged young perched on a branch. Then it was time to return to the dusty streets again. I must return soon for the orchids in the wildflower meadow and the dragonflies I know will haunt the pond.
