‘In the great cities, winter glitters with art and feasting. But poetry, the country cousin, sees only the dearth of the fields.’
Mason Cooley, City Aphorisms, New York (1984).
Best wishes to all those of you reading this and thank you for your support and interest over the year.

A wonderful market feast to close the year with, Diana, perfectly summing up what I love so much about your blog: its rich breadth of interest. From posts on Gabarek, London allotments and gardens, and the Edward Thomas play (which bring a sharp pang of memory for the cultural possibilities we gave up when we left the city) to your evocative seascapes and land poems (which remind me of why we left), your work and ideas continually pull me in. Thanks for sharing them, and best wishes for the coming year!
Cheers,
Julian

What a lovely and encouraging response Julian – I am glad I bring both regret and consolation. I am lucky to have the best of both worlds at present. Best wishes to you for 2013 too and I look forward to the book as well as your posts from near and far!

A wonderful visit to the market! Thank you Diana. I really enjoyed seeing the people going about their business – coats and all. Catching up with this a bit late, but best wishes to you and especially now for 2013, which looms large and I hope full of potential for you! Philippa

Thanks Philippa – and the same for you. Hope the portraits went down well.

Merry Christmas! Great post and we somehow cross paths but never seem to meet. Bourough Market is a favourite haunt of mine. On a cold crisp winter day you may find ‘tales’ in the Market Porter. A visit to St Pauls is on the cards for New Year. Best wishes to you.

London looks beautiful through your camera, and love the quote, spot on when the moors are water-logged and foggy! The fish market reminds of the scene in ‘Plein Soleil’ which has taken me off to an Italian summer, good work for midwinter!
